When to Re-Torque Clamp Bolts…

I received this interesting question earlier today,,,

Larry
On an injection mold that is locked into the press for production for several months or a year at a time, how often should you take the machine out of service and re-check the mold clamps to make sure they have not loosened up to prevent damage and/or personal injury?
My Response
There is no industry standard for this, but it is a very important subject. One of the best strategies I see for this is to verify the clamp bolts at the same time routine maintenance is done to the mold. This means, when the machine is stopped to lubricate the components such as leaders pins, you can verify the torque of the bolts and levelness of the mold.
